How to Reduce Fractions to Lowest Terms

To reduce a fraction to lowest terms, find the largest number that will divide evenly into both the numerator and the denominator.
Reducing the fraction will not change its value
The reduced fraction will be an equivalent.

Example:
Reduce 6/18 to lowest terms.
The largest number that will divide evenly into both the numerator and the denominator is 6.

18
÷ 6
6
= 1
3

Thus the fraction 6/18 is the same as the fraction 1/3 when reduced to lowest terms.
